The Wood-Biosourced Pact of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes: Accelerating the Transition to Carbon Neutrality in Construction

The Wood-Biosourced Pact of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, in response to the objectives of carbon neutrality by 2050, encourages the massive use of wood and biosourced materials in construction. The 2020 Environmental Regulation imposes increasingly strict carbon emission thresholds since January 2022. The building sector, responsible for significant greenhouse gas emissions, is faced with a major challenge. The region, dynamic in wood-biosourced construction, proposes a Pact developed in collaboration with various actors, aiming to create a virtuous ecosystem promoting the use of natural and renewable resources, while simplifying the application of new regulatory requirements. Developed by Fibois Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and its territorial interprofessions, it is addressed to all developers and project owners, public and private. Thus, the Wood-Biosourced Pact aims to demonstrate that the forest-wood and biosourced sectors and their products provide an effective solution to the environmental, economic and societal challenges of tomorrow for the 29 signatories of the region.

Valorization of Scolytus Wood: A Challenge and an Opportunity for Construction in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The epidemic of bark beetles in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, accentuated by the droughts of 2018 and winter storms, poses a challenge to the wood supply, already disrupted by the health crisis. Despite these challenges, Scolytus wood offers an interesting perspective for construction. Indeed, the Scolytus spruce retains all its mechanical qualities, allowing its valorization in construction. This also contributes to the fight against climate change by promoting carbon storage. However, the use of Scolytus wood requires rigorous management to guarantee the quality and safety of constructions. These issues require active monitoring of populations and effective crisis management.

A Diversity of Training for Meaningful Careers

The forest-wood sector in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, with its 60,400 jobs, is a job-providing sector. Companies are actively looking for qualified and motivated profiles, but they encounter difficulties in recruiting. With its impressive diversity of professions, ranging from the most well-known such as cabinetmaker, carpenter, joiner, to the lesser-known such as saw pilot, forestry worker or even study manager, all these professions share a common attraction for wood, a noble material, respectful of the environment and a source of innovation. This diversity offers numerous training and career opportunities in the region: more than 10,000 recruitments are projected for the year!
